That the oncologist wants a conversation with me/us.
This morning when I arrived at mom’s room in the hospital, the oncologist was in the room, tending to the other patient. I waited in the hallway and when the door opened and the oncologist saw me, he came to me and said he wanted a conversation this week, because things are not looking good. Of course we knew this already, but when a doctor says something like this, it’s terrifying. Mom had a couple of days where she wasn’t coughing and where she slept a lot. Yesterday she started coughing again and since this morning she is coughing up blood again. It might be pneumonia again, despite her still getting one antibiotic. That will be the third time in as many weeks. I asked her today if I can do anything for her and she said ‘take the cough away’. If only I could…
This was my answer in 2016.
