Dried Fruit Chutney

I have shared a recipe for chutney before, where you can quickly make chutney in the microwave. Many years ago, I used this recipe to make the most delicious chutney, much nicer than you can buy in the stored, but not nicer than Mrs. Ball’s Chutney.

1-1/2 cups dried apricots, coarsely chopped
1-1/2 cups dried peaches, coarsely chopped
1-1/2 cups dates, finely chopped
1-1/2 cups raisins
2 cups chopped onions
1-1/2 cups malt vinegar
1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon mustard seeds, crushed and ground
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon salt

  1. Combine all ingredients inn a large enameled saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat, stirring frequently.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, partially covered, for about 1 hour.
  4. If needed, cook it longer until chutney is thick enough to hold its shape.
